While prequel comics are usually nothing close to high art, Kingdom Kong is even less than you would expect.The title of the book is misleading. This is not about Kong, this is about a Monarch flight team comprised of many different ethnically ambiguous and androgynous individuals preparing themselves for the very first Hollow Earth exploration (and if you've seen Godzilla VS Kong you know how that went)The whole "plot" is pointless, and even worse, boring. The characters are cliches while having any fun or unique qualities from said cliches taken out of them to appear more safe and broadly appealing. Unfortunately the result is awful characters you'll never even remember the names of. Oh sure, Kong shows up. He has some fights and other titans appear as well. But this isn't his story.The art is good, almost too good. At times it almost seems like each panel with the human characters in them were photographed in real life, and then drawn over. Although I personally find the cover art to be dreadfully bad.Cannot reccomend this even as an accompanying piece to the main Monsterverse, on account of its horrible plot, characters, and the occasional retcon and lore change.
